If you're a San Diego native, you know Better Buzz. In fact, the very name probably arouses strong emotions. Some may think it's overrated, while others salivate at the mere whisper of the name. Personally, I fall into... both groups? Let me explain.
Better Buzz is known for its adorable black, white, and gold aesthetic. Several locations boast outdoor seating - we're talking plush chaises and BENCH SWINGS, people. Seriously, the interior is any instagrammer's dream.
If you still don't believe me take a scroll through the gallery:
However, while I appreciate a cute photo... in the wise words of Mama Odie, "It don't matter what you look like." (If you don't get that reference we can't be friends.)
If the chai isn't good, I simply don't care about your aesthetic. Especially during a pandemic when dine-in is no longer an option. There, I said it.
Luckily, Better Buzz doesn't have a good chai. IT'S AMAZING. It's smooth, sweet, and cinnamon-y. It has a creaminess I often encounter in my dreams. It's dreamily creamy, if you will.
HOWEVER - I will say, it is not just a little bit sweet. This chai is extremely sweet. For this reason, I recommend you take one of the following courses of action:
Order a dirty chai. You can add one or two shots (or more, do your thang). The addition of espresso serves to cut the sweetness to a more reasonable level.
Ask them to reduce the sweetness. You have the option of 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 of the normal amount.
1 & 2! If you're worried about the sweetness but don't want to risk harming your beauty sleep, you can always add a decaf espresso shot in addition to halving or quartering the sugar.
Lastly, for those of you who know this chai just doesn't check off your boxes... don't leave yet! I've got a few more (non-chai) options for you.
Best Drink Ever: vanilla + coffee (what could go wrong?)
Lavender black tea w/ oat milk: full disclosure - I haven't tried this one! It comes highly recommended by a friend, though.
So, what do you think? My fellow San Diegans: what's your go-to Better Buzz order? I look forward to chatting with you all in the comments!
Hugs & scones,
Micah
