Hi. How the heck are ya? I've been watching wayyy too much New Girl recently but that is besides the point. We have gathered here today to talk about one thing, C H A I.
As previously mentioned by Micah, we recently went on a Hillcrest coffee crawl and just like Nick from New Girl chants on his bar crawl, "the crawl is for all!"
So, in that spirit, I introduce you all to the first stop from the crawl.
The shop's name is Refill and it's totally cute. Located at the base of a loft apartment building, Refill has extensive outdoor seating (that is currently closed *sad face* ), complete with cute chairs and tables and a good amount of shade. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their store conducts business through one window and requires a mask, which we at Chai Everything love and appreciate. The service was excellent and the barista were kind. The girl and I were even wearing matching hair clips! (hehe)
OK, but the CHAI
For reference, we ordered an iced, 12 0z. dirty chai with oat milk.
The short version:
This chai was strong. I'm talking could bench press like all of me. OK fine, not really, but you get the mental image. I don't know for sure if there was one shot or two in there, but if you don't like it strong, this chai is not for you.
2. Gingerbread vibes. This chai straight up tastes like a holiday. Cinnamon was a forward flavor in the drink, and I think that they even sprinkled some on top for us. The profile is warm and I imagine that a hot version of this drink would make any cold day better.
3. It's not super sweet. Compared to the other chais we tasted on the crawl, this chai ranked last in terms of sweetness. This might be due to the strong coffee presence but either way, this chai is a great choice for those who don't want something overly sweetened.
4. The creaminess level wasn't great. Again compared to the other chais, this one ranked last on how creamy it was. Iced chais have the tendency to taste watered down partly because of the ice (no duh scientist), but also because of other variables. This one could have been caused by the use of a chai syrup instead of powder, but no one can know for sure.

I'm not going to lie to you guys, we did want to try this place because they have a chocolate milk chai. Yes you read that right. Unfortunately, if I had that, I would be like Ben from Parks and Rec when he eats bad calzones. Bad times.

Despite this, I still really enjoyed our visit to Refill, and I strongly suggest that everyone chai it (haha) for themselves!
Hugs and gluten free blueberry scones,
Kayla
